Serang, Kompas - the new Train, Banten Ekspres, that served the tracks Jakarta-Serang-Merak, began to be operated on on Monday (22/9). Three tracks that connected the south Banten area that for a long time has been closed also it was proposed to be opened again. The KA operation economics of Banten Ekspres was declared by Transport Minister Jusman Safeii Djamal and Banten Ratu Atut Chosiyah Governor in the Serang station, on last Monday morning. The new TRAIN will replace the Patas Merak TRAIN that beforehand served the route Merak-Serang-Jakarta and on the other hand.
The train of the economic class was the domestic product that was made by PT Industri Kereta Api (Inka) Madiun. The production of the train spent the fund as far as Rp 26.517 billion that came from the Budget of the Income and the Negara Expenses (APBN) in 2008.
The train consisted of ten carriages, complete with restoration as well as the special seat for disable person. The train also was supplemented with the air cooler have totaly seat capacity for 1,006 seats.
Jusman Safeii Djamal said, the Banten Ekspres was operated in the tracks of the Merak - Serang-Jakarta because the number of passengers from the Banten area was classified as high. According to him, every year the number of railway passengers in these tracks continued to increase.
The Old Route
The Banten Ekspres name was given by Banten Ratu Atut Chosiyah Governor. As the symbol of the resident's pride Banten, all the train's carriages were given the picture of the Old Agung Banten mosque tower. The Banten resident only paid the ticket Rp 5,000 for the Merak -Jakarta trip and Rp 4,000 to Serang-Jakarta.
According to Ratu Atut Chosiyah, Banten had six nets of the TRAIN passage along 306,9 kilometre. However, at this time only three tracks along 147,44 km that was operated, namely the tracks Jakarta-Serang-Merak, Jakarta- Tangerang, and Cigading-Krenceng.
Three other tracks were not used, namely Rangkasbitung- Labuan, Saketi-Bayah, and Peacock-Cigading-Anyer Kidul.
