The interesting surroundings of Hotel Resort Mambruk Anyer

Hotel Resort Mambruk is located at an interesting spot, on a beach facing the Sunda Straight.  While enjoying the view from the beach, the restaurant or the garden one can see large ships passing through this sea lane which is one of the busiest of the world.  But, as interesting are the many small boats of the local fishermen who are busy trying to catch the local seafood.  Often, at night, the lights of these little boats fill the view and compete with the stars.

 Looking to the left the contours of Anak Krakatau can be seen.  This is an impressive view, in particularly when the sun sets over the ocean and this famous vulcano.

 From the same spot, far away across the water, the contours of the Lampung region of Sumatra can be seen.  It is only a day trip from Mambruk if you want to visit the famous Elephant Park near Lampung city.  Ask the reception for more information.

 Looking to the right the island of Sanghiang is in view.  It is only 15 minutes by boat and the hotel can organise a pleasant pick-nick trip to this adventurous spot.

 Just 5 minutes walk to the right is the famous Anyer Lighthouse.  It is the second lighthouse on this site.  The first lighthouse was destroyed after the Krakatoa eruption in 1883  The lighthouse keeper lost his wife and child during that calamity but was still able to improvise a warning system for the ships using the Sunda Straight. The foundations of this building are still visible.  Isn't it amazing that those bricks from which the foundation was built came to Anyer in ships from the Netherlands as ballast more than 200 years ago?

 The present lighthouse, which is still active, was built in 1885.  It is an interesting building, made from cast iron components that were made in Holland and assembled in Anyer on this site.  For a small amount one can climb the stairs and enjoy a beautiful view over the Sunda Straight and the resort.

 Approximately 600 metres into the direction of Anyer one can find another old building: just 20 metres from the main road stands an old railway station and a worn-out platform.  The rail tracks are gone but the contours of the tracks can still be found.  A less important but still historical site.

 Across the road from Mambruk is the Kampung of Cikoneng. Guests who wish to pay this community a visit and explore the village on foot can make an appointment at the front desk.
